Per Sekhmet is an in-person and online group that is dedicated to learning more
about the religion and spirituality of Ancient Egypt, and then applying it
to the modern world. We work towards worshipping and serving the Netjeru (Ancient Egyptian gods)
in the ways of the Ancient Egyptians, but still keeping in mind that we live in the modern world.
Per Sekhmet started as a simple website in 1999 providing information, and has slowly
changed over the years. (See our Historical Timeline.)
Those participating in Per Sekhmet are not strictly Kemetic, but its learnings and teachings
are strictly Kemetic. Per Sekhmet strives to give a more intimate understanding of the
Kemetic religion, and the reasons on how and why things were done, so that its members can
better understand the symbology & motivations behind the religion. Consequently, its members
can then choose to apply the information they have learned to their spirituality. And if they
choose to *not* apply that information, the choice is an informed one, and not one done out
of ignorance or lack of knowledge.
Per Sekhmet is not interested in converting or prostelyizing the Kemetic religion.
Per Sekhmet is merely interested in providing a better understanding of the Kemetic religion.
Per Sekhmet is interested in helping provide a spiritual experience of the Netjer
by understanding the philosophies, symbology, and mythology of the Ancient Egyptians,
and to expose the traditional religion of Ancient Egypt to a wider audience.
Community and Interpersonal Interactions
Per Sekhmet is also about community. It is about like-minded individuals coming
together in a safe and real-life environment where they can discuss, study, and learn together,
and support each other in their spiritual and religious beliefs as well as support each
other through the times in their life.
The founders of Per Sekhmet have learned that community IS important, and even more
importantly, *must* be experienced in a real life setting. Although there are a lot of online
communities for people to learn knowledge, build comraderie and friendships, we have found that
speaking in person, helping each other experience things, and being supportive with each other is
a much more powerful experience. Giving a *hug* in person is a much more powerful stimulus
than giving a *hug* in an online forum.
The power of touch and interpersonal human interaction can have unbelieveable results.
The Online Experience
Despite the emphasis on interpersonal interactions, Per Sekhmet does not believe that
the online experience does not have merit. The online experience does have merit.
Consequently, we have a simple online forum, where its real life members can interact and
discuss topics that are important to them without fear of reprisal or flames from anonymous
users or users who feel that because they are on the Internet have no responsibility
for what they say online.
On Joining...
Per Sekhmet is not an group that is open to the general public.
New members must be introduced to the group, and "sponsored" by an existing member,
(just as you would introduce a friend to a group of already existing friends), both in
the real life group and the online setting.
